BATH | Support Specialist Lisa Rosekrans is one of the Arc of Steuben’s Direct Support Professionals who has impacted the lives of those she supports.
Lisa has impacted the quality of life for Etta Granger. During Etta’s Personal Outcome Measures® interview, she talked about her dream of wanting to see her daughter in Texas. She had not seen her daughter in 10 years and also had two grandchildren that Etta had never met. This aligned with the CQL Personal Outcome Measures® of choosing and realizing her personal goals.
Lisa Rosekrans and other members of Etta’s network of support worked with Etta and helped her realize her goal of visiting her daughter. Lisa helped Etta apply for a grant through the Arc of Steuben’s Arc Star Wish program.
Once the money for the trip was approved, Lisa helped Etta make arrangements with her daughter and the airline. She also supported Etta, as Etta packed and prepared for the trip.
In 2015, Etta achieved her goal and had a wonderful, impactful reunion with her daughter and met her grandchildren for the first time. The trip buoyed Etta’s spirits by strengthening her connection to her family support network, and boosted her confidence as she realized that she could achieve goals that had once seemed beyond her reach.
With support from Lisa, Etta has become more independent with her financial management through Etta’s identified goal to become more comfortable with using her checkbook. Lisa regularly helps with this goal by providing oversight, making sure that Etta has entered checks correctly and double checking Etta’s math. This goal aligns with the CQL Personal Outcome Measures® of choosing and realizing her personal goals and supports people experience continuity and security.
Lisa has also impacted the life of Etta and others who receive services from the Arc of Steuben through the creation of the Quality Living and Giving Back Club. Through the club, Lisa and other Arc of Steuben associates present to club members healthy lifestyle choices. The club has also immersed itself in the community by volunteering at a local food pantry and soup kitchen and by raising money for local animal shelters and other charitable organizations.
The club’s activities perfectly align with Personal Outcome Measures® by allowing its members to perform different roles within the community and by also giving them the opportunity to interact with their fellow community members.
It’s clear to anyone who knows Lisa that she has embraced the Arc of Steuben’s vision, mission and values and has internalized both the Person-Centered philosophy and CQL’s Personal Outcome Measures®. She is such an asset to our agency that she was named the 2015 Associate of the Year.
“Since she started working for the Arc in 2006 Lisa has shown a drive and commitment that makes her special,” Arc of Steuben Executive Director Bernie Burns said. “I also want to point out that she is extremely creative, creating new opportunities for people to give back to their communities. We at the Arc are extremely proud to have her as part of our family.”
