An Overview Of The DSP Recognition Week Campaign

Who Is Involved?

During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, CQL partnered with the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP).

When Did It Start?

This campaign took place during Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, occurring from September 10th, 2017 to September 16th, 2017

What Is The Project?

CQL and NADSP shared stories throughout DSP Recognition Week, to honor the dedication of Direct Support Professionals in their daily work.

Why Was It Created?

While Direct Support Professionals regularly demonstrate innovative approaches in human services, their efforts are often not recognized.

Where Is The Impact?

Through real-life examples of best practices, the benefits are immeasurable for individuals, employees, and organizations across the country.

How Does It Help The Field?

These stories offer guidance about the implementation of person-centered practices, which can be replicated by other support providers.

Inside The DSP Recognition Week Campaign

There are endless stories of effective, innovative, and responsive services being provided by Direct Support Professionals. Despite the importance of their work and especially the positive impact it has on the lives of people with disabilities, these stories often go untold.

DSP Recognition Week

Every year in September, the human services field dedicates a week to acknowledge Direct Support Professionals and express gratitude for their contributions, skills, and expertise. During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, DSPs are recognized and celebrated in a variety of ways, including state proclamations, special gifts, luncheons, award ceremonies, and more.

Honor A DSP • Submit A Story

In this annual campaign, CQL and NADSP solicit stories about excellence in direct support. People receiving services and provider organizations submit articles, videos, and audio clips about DSPs who are using Personal Outcome Measures® to help people achieve their personally-defined outcomes. These stories of excellence are then shared throughout DSP Recognition Week.
